IB Programmes

The IB mission statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

In the Diploma Program, the curriculum consists of six subject groups and the three elements of the Diploma Program core. As one of these core elements, the theory of knowledge course encourages students to become more aware of their own perspectives and assumptions through an exploration of the fundamental question of how we know what we know.

RTHS was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School in 2022 for the IB DP program. We believe in the IB philosophy of education for a better world, which we demonstrate through the implementation of a challenging curriculum based upon the IB Learner Profile and internationalism. We engage our students in an inquiry based education and a focus on service in preparation for lifelong learning in an ever-changing global society.

A select group of 11th and 12th graders at RTHS are members of our Diploma Programme. The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for college success and life beyond. The DP Programme has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities. Many of our DP students earn college credit which potentially saves our students thousands of dollars in college costs. Students may choose to be a Full Diploma IB Candidate who will take 7 prescribed college level classes or students may be a Course Candidate and take 1-2 IB DP courses for college credit based on their assessment performance.

Why IB DP?

❖ The aim is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people with adaptable skills to tackle society’s complex challenges
