Program Description
The Adult Transition Program (Michele D. Lonie Transition Center) is designed to meet the needs of students requiring further support in transitioning into adult life including the world of work, independent living, and community activities. The students in this program are 18 years of age or older and exit the program when they reach age 22. Students work towards becoming independent, building self-confidence, demonstrating socially acceptable behavior, developing friendships, and becoming self-advocates. Young adults will leave the program with a clear plan for postsecondary education, vocational training, integrated employment (including supported employment), continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation based on their individual abilities, interests, and needs. These plans will link students with postsecondary institutions or gainful employment. They will also address community access and living arrangement when appropriate.
