Rich Township High School District 227 has solidified its place as one of the top-performing districts in Illinois, marking a transformative era of success under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Johnnie Thomas and Board President Andrea Bonds.

Over the past eight years, RTHS has overcome longstanding challenges, implementing strategic reforms that have enhanced academics, facilities, and community engagement. “We are incredibly proud of our progress,” said Dr. Thomas. “With dedicated educators, students, and community support, we continue to build on this momentum.”

Milestone Achievements:

Enrollment Growth: Surged to 2,458 students, exceeding projections.
Academic Excellence: 9th Grade On-Track rate climbed from 68.3% (2022) to 89% (2024); graduation rate rose from 80.9% (2023) to 84.5% (2024).
Global Recognition: Achieved IB World School status, offering the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes.
Expanded Opportunities: Enhanced career pathways, dual-credit, and AP course offerings.

Athletics & Activities Highlights:

🏀 Boys' Basketball won the 51st Annual Big Dipper Tournament—its first title in 21 years.
🥁 Marching Band earned its third Chicago Classic title and hosted the Raptor Rumble Festival.
🤖 Student groups like Robotics, DECA, and BPA excelled in state and national competitions.

State-of-the-Art Facilities & Community Engagement:

Transformed campuses with new STEM spaces, a culinary kitchen, updated athletic facilities, and expanded programs in horticulture, automotive, construction, and aviation. Equity-driven initiatives, improved communication, and community partnerships continue to strengthen student success.
